I’ve been back in my childhood home for a few weeks now and realized I haven’t shared much about my city! If I ever move back to the US I think it is very probable I would return to this elegant and historical place. Aside from the long, cold winters, Boston is missing nothing. Ok maybe that’s a lie but I believe there are so many pros Boston can claim.
I want to list a few advantages this East Coast city holds - Without a doubt, Boston is a fantastic city to raise a family, with some of the best education in the country and its endless green spaces, it offers the perfect environment for children to grow. Secondly, it holds much of the country’s history and exudes elegance in its streets because of European influence. Lastly, Boston is situated right on the Atlantic Ocean, so New England beach days and manageable jet lag when traveling to Europe are at your disposal.
Most of my childhood unfolded in Brookline, Massachusetts, the closest residential town to Boston’s center. I lived here until 21 years old when I moved to Fenway, one of the central neighborhoods of Boston. In total, I lived 17 formative years in this city and continue to visit routinely. I have a note in my notes app titled “Boston Recs” on my phone ready to be copied and pasted when friends ask for Boston recommendations for their travels. This article is an extraction of my “musts” that I love from this list.
Parks
Public Garden
A romantic and peaceful energy is felt everywhere in this central part of Boston. Branches belonging to Weeping Willows sway in the wind along the water, mama ducks roam around with their ducklings, and residents and tourists alike can be seen picnicking, strolling, or admiring the views as they cross the iconic blue bridge in the park’s center.
Larz Anderson Park
A place I’ve been going to since I was a child for ice-skating lessons, this park has it all. Grills for barbecues, playgrounds for children, hills for sledding in the winter, and a beautiful view of Boston’s skyline in the distance. I include this spot in my tour of Boston even if it’s not in the center because of the personal connection I have with it and its vast beauty.
